Some Info about TNT. . .
Team in Training (TNT) is the largest endurance-training program in the world. I will receive the coaching and training needed to successfully run/walk a marathon (26.2 miles). Not only is TNT a chance for me to get in great physical shape, I also become an ambassador for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I will experience both the camaraderie of training with a team and the thrill of personal accomplishment that comes from completing a marathon. I will be matched with a leukemia patient in whose honor I will compete and raise funds. There are countless others that will motivate me to strive towards completion and in whose memory I will complete my goal. As well as a personal challenge I will be reminded and movitated by the enormous courage and determination of my honored patient heroes.
The Mid-America chapter serves Iowa, Kansas City area, and Western Missouri. The money raised in this chapter is used to fund the local chapter programs.
In '97-'99 the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society spent nearly 76% of total expenses directly on program services - 1/3 of which went directly into research to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma. Thanks to this research support from the Society, survival rates for leukemia have tripled in the last 40 years, from 14% in 1960 to 42% in 1994. The survival rate for children with acute lymphocytic leukemia (most common form) is even better at 80% - up from only 4% in 1960.

The Race !!
I will be led by certified and experienced coaches that lead all participants through a comprehensive 4-6 month training program designed to suite my physical goals and abilities. Their sound advice about form, technique, race strategies, equipment, injury prevention, and nutrition will be a great help. As a result I will benefit from increased strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and weight control.

Each participant is required to reach a minimum fundraising goal. Once goal is reached - The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will schedule and cover the costs for airfare and accommodations. Funds raised through TNT go to support life-saving leukemia research, patient services, and education. The program raised .7 million in 1997, .1 million in 1998, million in 1999, million in 2000, and the year 2001 goal is million. WOW!!
